Number Crunching
Most of the dogs we know would much prefer biscuit crunching to
number crunching but numbers are important if your pooch is a little
portly or you’re simply interested in the nutritional content of
your dog’s snack foods.
Fat has become a big issue for diet conscious humans and pet owners
alike. Nutritional analysis of our biscuits indicates that both our
Rye Crunch and Oatees fall into the very low fat category. A food
containing 5% (or less) fat is considered low fat. Our Rye biscuits
have 1.72% while our Oatees have 2.75%.
Our Peanut Butter and Barley Bites are higher in fat although their
fat content is still low by comparison with many commercially
produced pet snacks. The good news is that their fat content comes
from vegetable not animal sources so their saturated (bad) fat
content is low.
If you have a young dog or an active older dog you may be interested
to know that both our Peanut Butter and Oatees have good protein
content which is essential for developing and repairing body tissue.
We have spent a lot of time researching what ingredients are most
widely tolerated by our canine friends. We have spoken at length to
veterinary surgeons and pet nutritionists concerning common health
problems that may have a dietary basis. This has informed the very
careful choice of the flours, oils, herbs and cereals used in our
biscuits.
Scallywags is committed to using the best human quality wholefood
ingredients. We know that dog owners enjoy giving their pets treats
and our mission was to develop a range of biscuits that all dogs,
including those with special dietary needs, could eat. Our biscuits
are pure and simple and we intend keeping them that way.
