The ingredients in our biscuits have been carefully chosen to provide your dog with a tasty, nutritious biscuit. Here are some of the reasons why we built our yummy recipes around key ingredients such as peanut butter, barley flour, cold pressed safflower oil and oat bran.
So what’s so hot about peanut butter?
Peanuts are a good source of unsaturated fats and are cholesterol free. Peanuts contain Vitamin B, E, zinc, selenium and iron and other heart-healthy nutrients such as folic acid, soluble fibre, plant sterols and magnesium. Peanuts are also a good source of protein but are high in calories so treats containing peanut butter are suitable for well exercised dogs with high energy.
Is organic honey really the bee all ?
We think so because most commercially produced honey is heated for cleaning and packaging purposes. The heating process destroys many of its health-giving enzymes. Honey contains protein, iron, calcium, potassium, Vitamin B complex and vitamins C, D and E.
High impact cheese
We chose Parmesan for its toothsome kick and lovely grainy texture. Its strong flavour means we only need to use a small amount to give our Oatees their distinctive cheesy twist. This helps to keep their saturated fat content low. (We also team the Parmesan with cholesterol-lowering oat bran.) Cheese provides the body with vital calcium and protein and Parmesan contains phosphorus which is a major structural component of bone. Phosphorus is an essential mineral and required for normal body function.
Granny was right, oats are cool
Oats are a rich source of vitamin B complex and so-called “good” fats. Vitamin B is good for the nervous system and for strengthening the bones. Oats are good for the spleen, pancreas and the immune system.
Why is wheat germ on the A-list ?
Because it’s an excellent source of folic acid and Vitamin E. Vitamin E is an antioxidant and is good for the skin and promotes healing.
For some dogs barley is better
Barley is one of the oldest cultivated cereals. It contains very little gluten and is a soothing grain suitable for dogs with a low wheat tolerance. Modern varieties of wheat (found in most commercially produced dog treats) are very high in gluten which can create problems for dogs with sensitive guts or skin problems.
Flower power
Cold pressed Safflower oil is a mild oil high in polyunsaturates and rich in Vitamin E. It contains important fatty acids that are good for your dog’s skin and coat.
Rye Comment
Rye flour has a deliciously nutty flavour and is widely used in the making of
crispbreads. That's a hint....our rye biscuits are very crunchy and can help
clean your dogs teeth as they munch. Rye flour is low in gluten and suitable for
dogs with a wheat intolerance.
